Orff – Carmina Burana
This concert will feature the largest number of musicians the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra has ever had on stage, including two pianos and celeste, a large percussion section, three outstanding soloists, and over 150 singers from Western Washington University.
Joining them are guest vocalists Dawn Wolski, soprano; José Luis Muñoz, countertenor; and José Rubio, baritone.
Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff and based on a collection of 24 medieval poems, which include the famous “O Fortuna.” The poems cover themes as familiar now as then: the fickleness of fate, the fleeting nature of life, and the joy of Spring’s arrival. Join them as they finish their 42nd season with a flourish!
A free pre-concert lecture about the repertoire by Dr. Ryan Dudenbostel starts at 2:15 pm.
