St. Helens Quartet performs Borcherding's 'Sound Games'
Free
My name is Roderick Borcherding. I am an undergrad student at Cornish College of the Arts and this is my senior recital. It includes the premiere of my new string quartet called Sound Games, a contemporary classical string quartet with many techniques in sound that I have been exploring including spacial experimentation, electronic layering and extreme dynamic contrasts.
At about 43 minutes, it is the most ambitious piece I have ever written, as well as a summation of everything I have learned in my five years at Cornish. It will be played by the St. Helens Quartet with Paige Stockley as the cellist, Annie Center as the violist and Brandon Vance and Adrianna Hulscher as the violinists.
Afterward, there will be a short talk by myself on some music education concerns/ideas I have. There will be a reception to follow.
