J.S. Bach – Mass in B minor

The Seattle Bach Choir, under the artistic direction of Dr. Anne Lyman, presents J. S. Bach’s greatest symphonic masterpiece, his Mass in B minor. The performance will feature some of the finest Baroque soloists and instrumentalists in the world.

Bach’s Mass in B minor (the key in which most movements appear) is undoubtedly one of his greatest musical achievements. Spiritually, it can be viewed as an amalgam of the Catholic and Lutheran faiths. Musically, it represents Bach’s compositional work over many decades. Its many movements reveal his mastery of centuries of compositional practice, and range from ancient chant to progressive Italianate music. As a whole, it was performed for the first time in the 19th century, but not in the United States until 1900 by the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The Seattle Bach Choir is pleased to perform alongside many of the region’s greatest Baroque musicians, frequently performing with the Seattle Baroque Orchestra and Pacific MusicWorks. The Mass in B minor will be performed on period instruments in the beautiful and intimate setting of Trinity Parish Church.
