Maria Sampen, violin

Ludwig van Beethoven – Gratulations-Menuett, WoO 3
Ludwig van Beethoven – Romances for Violin and Orchestra, Opp. 40 and 50
Howard Hanson – Mosaics
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 2 in c, Op. 17, “Little Russian”

An old aphorism from the world of music states: "Tchaikovsky wrote three symphonies: Nos. 4, 5 and 6." Happily proving this incorrect, the Sammamish Symphony presents Tchaikovsky's colorful Symphony No. 2, which incorporates several Ukrainian folksongs within its symphonic structure. We continue the celebration of Ludwig van Beethoven's 250th anniversary with performances of three lesser-known works: the two Romances for violin and orchestra with radiant soloist Maria Sampen, and the Gratulations-Menuett, a cheery curtain-raiser. American composer Howard Hanson, best-known for his Symphony No. 2 ("Romantic"), will be spotlighted in a performance of his orchestral theme-and-variations, Mosaics.

Tickets: $20 ($15 seniors age 62 & over; $15 students w/ID; $10 children age 12 & under)
