Providing solace and smiles in this difficult time, the Houston-based professional ensemble ROCO is excited to offer free weekly livestream rebroadcasts of our past In Concert performances, featuring the full 40-piece chamber orchestra. Each broadcast will take place at 12:00pm (Pacific), and can be found on both our Facebook page and website.

We're kicking off the series with "Checkmate" – which featured pianist Lara Downes in the world premiere of Maxime Goulet’s Checkmate, a chess game for piano and orchestra based on the legendary 1996 match where IBM’s “Deep Blue” computer defeated reigning world champion, Garry Kasparov. ROCO principals Kristin Wolfe Jensen, bassoon, and Nathan Williams, clarinet, were the featured soloists in Mendelssohn’s Concert Piece No. 1 in F minor, Op. 113. Conductor Paul Watkins (cellist with the Emerson String Quartet) led the program, which also included a work from his brother, British composer Huw Watkins, and Martinů’s brilliant Sinfonietta La Jolla, with Lara Downes, rounded out the program. This concert was recorded live at The Church of St. John the Divine, on Sept. 22, 2018, by Blueprint Film Co.
