A livestream album launch concert to raise awareness and support for local relief efforts in impacted communities across the country in this time of crisis, produced in partnership with a national coalition of public radio stations.

The newest project by pianist Lara Downes, Some Of These Days is a musical reflection on social justice, progress and equality. In this time of global unrest and upheaval, Downes turns to freedom songs and spirituals that invoke our human capacity for optimism, activism, and unification in the face of crisis. In Lara’s words: “We are strong. We are resourceful. We have come through darkness into light, over and over again. Let’s lean on our ancestors and the lessons they have taught us about hope, courage, and above all unity.”

Some Of These Days features music by Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, Billy Taylor, Harry T. Burleigh and others, inspired by traditional freedom songs and spirituals.

This deeply personal project from an artist known as “an explorer whose imagination is fired by bringing notice to the underrepresented and forgotten”, Some Of These Days taps into our collective experience, as well as Lara’s musical and personal history. In her own words: “This music pulls at so many parts of me – and pulls them together. The part that is a strong woman; the part that is an audacious artist. The part that is my parents’ daughter. This is my history, and ours.”

Tune in on Friday, April 3, at 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern.
