This program will include the world premiere of Caught Zipper written by Douglas Hertz, also a Nief-Norf alumni. Caroline Shaw's contemplative piece, Gustave le Gray will also be performed as an ode to finding peace and stillness during these times of uncertainty and isolation.

Will Yager will be performing Theraps by Iannis Xenakis and Esplorazione del bianco I by Salvatore Sciarrino. These pieces are among some of the most significant contributions to the double bass repertoire by major composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, and demonstrate, each in their own way, the wide variety of wild and engaging sounds the double bass can make. They also place similar significant physical demands upon the performer, but with incredibly different musical results.

If we cannot venture from our houses, we will bring new and adventurous sounds straight to your living room! Experience great chamber music from Julius Eastman and Philip Glass, to Kate Soper and Joanna Bailie in selected concert videos from Nief-Norf and our Summer Festival. Around 40 works will be shared with you in this web special. Plus, we are proud to present Nief-Norf ensemble members in a livestream performance each week.
Each summer, during our annual festival, fellows gather for Norf Space, an open forum where artists present music that inspires them. It's a moment in the day for our community to connect over the music of our time. It's a chance to broaden our perspectives and engage in the truly necessary art of focused listening. We hope that our Virtual Norf Space will be an opportunity for you to do the same.
New videos will be posted around lunchtime every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The livestream performances will happen at 4:30pm Pacific / 7:30pm Eastern ("doors open" at 4pm Pacific / 7pm Eastern) on each Wednesday. We recommend opening each video into full screen to have the best experience.
