Nik Bärtsch  – Third Coast Culture (world premiere)
Robyn Jacob  – Transference and Zoosemiotics (world premiere)

Third Coast Percussion presents the live streamed world premieres of two new works by composer/performers Robyn Jacob and Nik Bärtsch along with a performance of Triple Point by Chicago-based composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Ayanna Woods. This program highlights the extensive, highly-collaborative workshop process that the ensemble has developed for working with living composers. Robyn Jacob and Ayanna Woods have both participated in TCP's Emerging Composers Partnership, which is an integral part of the organization's ongoing effort to expand percussion ensemble repertoire and amplify up-and-coming musical voices.

New Music Gathering 2020 is 15 days of concerts, lectures, discussions, and fun time socializing galore.

This concert begins at 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern.

About Third Coast Percussion

Third Coast Percussion is a Grammy Award-winning Chicago-based percussion quartet. For 15 years, the ensemble has created exciting and unexpected performances that constantly redefine the classical music experience. The ensemble has been praised for “commandingly elegant” (New York Times) performances, the “rare power” (Washington Post) of their recordings, and “an inspirational sense of fun and curiosity” (Minnesota Star-Tribune). Third Coast Percussion maintains a busy tour schedule, with past performances in 33 of the 50 states plus international tour dates on 4 continents. Third Coast Percussion has commissioned and premiered more than 60 new works by composers including Philip Glass, Augusta Read Thomas, David T. Little, and Devonté Hynes.

About New Music Gathering

New Music Gathering is an annual conference dedicated to the performance, production, promotion, support and creation of new concert music. With concerts, lecture/recitals, roundtable discussions, talks, and everything from composer-performer “speed dating,” to live action role playing games, NMG aims to be both a conference in the traditional sense but also quite literally a collective place for things to grow, improve, solidify, and above all get personal.

New Music Gathering is volunteer-organized by five working musicians – Lainie Fefferman, Daniel Felsenfeld, Mary Kouyoumdjian, Jascha Narveson, and Angélica Negrón. Its focus is on meeting the needs and desires of the community in ways that are increasingly direct and diverse.

"A reunion for friends who had never met each other." ~ Rob Deemer (New Music Box, 2015)
