The Overture Council, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association’s young professionals group, presents its second virtual Soundpost of the 2020/21 season.

Soundpost: Exploding the Canon: Music by Black Composers and Musician-Inspired Activism, will feature Lee Bynum from The Dream Unfinished, an activist orchestra in New York City that uses classical music as a platform to engage audiences in dialogues about social and racial justice. Also featured will be Chicago-based concert violinist Rachel Barton Pine, founder of the group Music by Black Composers, which has collected more than 900 works by more than 350 Black composers from the 18th to 21st centuries representing North and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and Asia. Rachel Barton Pine’s 2002 recording of the Brahms and Joachim violin concertos with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was nominated for a Grammy Award.
