Ludwig van Beethoven, arr. Johann Nepomuk Hummel – Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus
Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges – String Quartet No. 5 in G minor, Op. 1
Ludwig van Beethoven, arr. The Knights – Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61

Grammy Award-winning violinist Gil Shaham, whose playing The New York Times has called “ravishing” and “rapturous,” returns to our stage for the first time since 2013.

He joins friends and frequent collaborators from The Knights, the dynamic Brooklyn-based orchestral collective that is reimagining classical music programming — and with it performance — in thrilling new ways. Their fresh and imaginative program pairs one of the elegant, eye-opening string quartets by 18th century polymath Joseph Bologne, also known as Chevalier de Saint-Georges — among the first string quartets to be written in France — with works by Beethoven. The concert offers the rare chance to hear Shaham as both a chamber musician and soloist, the latter when he is the featured violinist in The Knights’ own newly conceived arrangement of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, a work that has captivated Shaham since he was a child and which he has performed with the world’s greatest orchestras. The artists take on the 1806 masterwork in a socially distanced small ensemble 2021 format that promises to reveal Beethoven through a fascinating new lens.

The broadcast will begin at 4:30pm Pacific / 7:30pm Eastern.

The concert stream will be available to ticket buyers for one full week from the time of broadcast. View it live, or at your convenience!
