Rochester-based modern chamber music ensemble fivebyfive will perform music that explores the fragility in our lives, connecting us through our hopes, sorrows, and dreams, in the online program “Life Through Our Windows” on Saturday March 27th.
Listeners are invited to take time for remembrance, hope, and healing in music written for online, remote performances over Zoom by composers Sungmin Shin and Sophie Stone, followed by a discussion about the music hosted by composer-conductor Evan Meccarello.
Sophie Stone’s Post Card Sized Pieces is a chance to dream about a time when travel will be possible. This music captures the fragility and intimacy of lives viewed through small windows.
Sungmin Shin’s Postlude 2020 is a quiet and healing reflection of those close to us yet separated. As each instrument takes its turn speaking, a narrative of remembrance unfolds inflecting emotions that greatly outweigh the number of the piece’s notes. This will be its first performance and is dedicated to those who are no longer physically with us.
All are welcome to register to attend this free, online performance over Zoom. The performance will also be streamed live through the fivebyfive Facebook page.
This program is the second in fivebyfive’s “Composer Chats” series hosted by Evan Meccarello. The series will continue with Anthony R. Green’s a tiny dream with new animation (April 24th), a music video premiere of a new version of Miguel del Aguila’s Tamboreno (May 22nd), and an interactive performance of Pauline Oliverios’s Tuning Meditation (June 6th).
