Our final concert of the 2020-21 season begins a celebration of the 500th anniversary of the death of French Renaissance master Josquin des Prez (c.1450-1521). This performance will include an overview of our activities for the whole season plus feature several pieces of music by Josquin, including his famous chanson 'Mille regretz' plus a portion of his 'Missa sine nomine' ('Mass without a name' ) to honor our choir's namesake.

Course participants on this project met virtually in April over five weeks to sing and learn about the music, history, and culture of Josquin's time. In addition to a few virtual choir recordings of Josquin's works, we will also include some video footage of our time singing together in person, masked and following all recommended guidelines, at Seattle's beautiful Trinity Parish Church in May 2021- to include snippets of 'Missa sine nomines' by Renaissance composers Richard Cox, working in England and Spanish composer Juan Guttiérez de Padilla, working in Mexico.

There will be an opportunity for an ongoing chat conversation during the performance, too, so you can send comments and ask questions. We look forward to sharing this concert premiere experience with you!

About Sine Nomine: Renaissance Choir

The Renaissance choir Sine Nomine, directed by Dr. Anne Lyman, is a Community Collegium ensemble, part of the community outreach program of Early Music Seattle (EMS). Founded in 2008 by conductor Gary D. Cannon and singer/manager Pamela Silimperi, Sine Nomine is a mixed-voice chamber choir specializing in the fine performance of early music, including sacred and secular works from all regions. The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from the late Medieval to the Baroque, with special emphasis on Renaissance works of the 15th and 16th centuries. Most of the participants in Sine Nomine also sing in other choruses, ranging from church choirs to semi-professional ensembles.
