Johannes Brahms – Liebeslieder Waltzes for piano four-hands, Op. 52
Antonín Dvořák – String Sextet in A major, Op. 48, B. 80

Concert Program V juxtaposes music by two of Romanticism’s signature voices, one an important mentor to the other. It was Johannes Brahms who helped to launch Antonín Dvořák’s career in 1877: Brahms, at that time Western music’s most celebrated composer, discovered the young Dvořák’s music while serving on the panel for a state prize. Thanks to Brahms’s endorsement, Dvořák signed a publishing contract and quickly produced a series of works that fueled his rise to international stardom; one of these early successes was the String Sextet in A major, op. 48.

The livestream will take place at 4pm Pacific. Broadcasting live from Menlo School, Atherton, CA.
