Johann Sebastian Bach — Selected works

Bamboo and Brass Ltd. is a group of professional musicians created to explore the wide-range of saxophone quartet repertoire, as there has been an explosion of quartet music for saxophone in the past 20 years. Ken Murphy (soprano sax), James Myles (alto sax), Barbara Hubers-Drake (tenor sax), and Derek Smith (baritone sax) met while participating in various jazz orchestras throughout the Seattle area. Individually, all have performed nationally and internationally with numerous ensembles at weddings, corporate events, parties, concerts, festivals, educational events, restaurants, clubs, churches, and theater pit orchestras.

Bach in the Subways was founded in 2011 by cellist Dale Henderson in the subways of New York City. He wanted audiences to experience the beauty of classical music and he believed J.S. Bach the perfect ambassador for this art form. Even more importantly, he wanted audiences to experience the music without having to pay an admission fee. Bach in the Subways caught fire around the world, and thousands of musicians all over the world will be offering free concerts to the public in churches, train stations, street corners, restaurants, concert halls, moving trains, and other locations during J.S. Bach’s birthday week from March 21-31, 2022.

This is the second year Bamboo and Brass Ltd. will be participating in this worldwide festival (https://bachinthesubways.org/seattle/). Bamboo and Brass Ltd. extends its thanks to Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church for the privilege of presenting a repertoire of music written by J.S. Bach.

The performance will be in the sanctuary twenty minutes before the 8:30am service and twenty minutes before the 11am service. There will also be J.S. Bach pieces during the services.

Please review COVID-19 protocols for Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church before attending this performance. PRLC site: https://prlc.org/
