After nearly half a century, the esteemed Emerson String Quartet "known for its lively, nuanced playing" (The New York Times) is retiring and saying farewell. Over the decades, the quartet has accumulated an impressive list of achievements, including over 30 notable recordings, nine Grammys, three Gramophone Awards and the Avery Fisher Prize. For their final performance at Meany, these longtime friends of Meany perform works by Haydn and Schubert, alongside Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber and George Walker's poetic Lyric for Strings.
"With musicians like this there must be some hope for humanity."
