Join Sine Nomine, with Director Anne Lyman, as we celebrate the historic reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and II. The Virgin Queen (Elizabeth I) was fond of her chief Chapel Royal composer, William Byrd – despite his Catholic leanings. Our program highlights the wide range of his polyphonic prowess, from the intimate Mass for Four Voices to the festive Haec dies. English composer Robert Parsons set Psalm 15, "Domine, quis habitabit," in a florid, quintessentially English style that, along with John Bennet's All creatures now, celebrate the faith and devotion that Queen Elizabeth I's musicians had for their "Fair Oriana." In addition, several of our program's pieces, including commissions by Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams, were featured at Queen Elizabeth II's coronation and, most recently, her memorial service.

About Sine Nomine: Renaissance Choir

The Renaissance choir Sine Nomine, directed by Dr. Anne Lyman, is a Community Collegium ensemble, part of the community outreach program of Early Music Seattle (EMS). Founded in 2008 by conductor Gary D. Cannon and singer/manager Pamela Silimperi, Sine Nomine is a mixed-voice chamber choir specializing in the fine performance of early music, including sacred and secular works from all regions. The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from the late Medieval to the Baroque, with special emphasis on Renaissance works of the 15th and 16th centuries. Most of the participants in Sine Nomine also sing in other choruses, ranging from church choirs to semi-professional ensembles.

Sine Nomine is a proud member of the Greater Seattle Choral Consortium (GSCC).
