The unforgettable song cycle, Intonations: Songs from the Violins of Hope, was inspired by the collection of lovingly restored instruments that were owned and played by Jews before and during the Holocaust. Through Jake Heggie's music and Gene Scheer's lyrics, the songs relate the extraordinary voyages of the violins and their owners. Award-winning mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke will be featured and joins solo violinist Mikhail Shmidt. Also on the program is The Dybbuk Suite by Joel Engel, a collaboration with Spectrum Dance Theater. Donald Byrd's brilliant choreography brings a new dimension to Engel's music for the iconic Yiddish play. Based on a timeless folk legend, it resonates in fresh ways for our world today. Featuring Spectrum Dance Theater dancers Kylie Lewallen and Joel Myers who premiered the piece in 2010.
