Dafna Naphtali is a composer/performer/improviser vocalist, sound-artist, and electronic-musician who also writes her own software. She's focused for many years on live-sound processing of sound, multi-channel sound works, and location-based interactive soundwalks. All the work is inspired by her active outdoor listening practice, and a desire to transform the sonic reality of her listener's location rather than synthesize new or virtual experiences. Her longest-running project has been to transform the sound of her fellow musicians' instruments in performance—as well as her own voice—and to play these newly created sounds as an instrument, with tight control over rhythm and audio feedback as she listens and interacts with room acoustics and psychoacoustics.
Naphtali chose to work primarily in duos for the past decade for performances and recording releasing five duo recordings since 2017. Working in duos enables Naphtali to explore creative live electroacoustics as well as the differences between each of the specific instruments. For this concert, Naphtali is thrilled to finally bring all of these long-time duo friends/collaborators together to play in small and large electro-acoustic ensembles, in free and structured improvisations, new and older compositions (including a "deck score" created with trombonist Jen Baker.) The evening concludes with a premiere of Naphtali's new composition Metathesis II for the full group and multi-channel sound.
