One of Schubert's late masses, this fabulous work is not performed as often as deserved. It is rich with exquisite settings of the text, showcasing Schubert's mature skills as a composer and rich with interplay among the choir, orchestra, and soloists. Schubert took some freedoms with the traditional Mass text, adding and removing certain phrases in order to deepen the musical expression or enhance a particular meaning. Please come and help us celebrate this season of love and renewal by helping to feed those in need. Packing a lot of beautiful music into a relatively short concert, it is a perfect outing for the family or for a Mother's Day weekend event.
About Catherine Haight, soprano
Soprano Catherine Haight appears frequently with the region's most prestigious musical organizations, regularly performing in Pacific Northwest Ballet's Carmina Burana and The Nutcracker. Reviewing PNB's world premiere of Christopher Stowell's Zaïs, The Seattle Times called her singing "flawless." She appears as soprano soloist on the OSSCS recording of Handel's Messiah, the Seattle Choral Company recording of Carmina Burana, and on many movie and video game soundtracks, including Pirates of the Caribbean, Ghost Rider, and World of Warcraft.
About David Wadden, bass
Bass-baritone David Wadden began his singing career in Boston. As an Emerging Artist with Boston Lyric Opera, he sang the Marchese in La Traviata and Andret in Frank Martin's The Love Potion. Also with BLO, he was a soloist in Boston's Landmarks summer concert series. Local productions included Colline in La Boheme with Longwood Opera, Bertan in Iolanta with Commonwealth Lyric Theater, and Bermiata in Snegurochka with Lowell House opera. He is currently pursuing a degree in computer science at the UW and has participated in opera scenes with the UW Opera Theater. David made his PSCO debut in 2018 as Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni.
