Hear sounds of Puerto Rico and Cuba, New York, Los Angeles, and Oakland! This concert salutes the transformative spirit and enduring African legacy in music and dance from the Caribbean.

The evening opens with Daughter of the Sea, a short film by Alexis Garcia about a return home and a spiritual awakening in Puerto Rico. Bomba Yemayá brings us the thrilling creative interaction between drummers, dancers, singers characteristic of bomba, a core community expression of Puerto Rico. We close with Bobí Céspedes and her band who share Orisha songs and Cuban music, honed over decades of performing, teaching, and growing the audience of Afro-Cuban musical heritage.
