On March 10, at 5:30pm, Benaroya Hall will host a captivating event titled "Phoenix" presented by Music of Remembrance. This unique evening of live music and dance summons mythical creatures—the phoenix rising from ashes and the proto-Frankenstein golem—to confront the harsh realities that persist among us. MOR, renowned for its groundbreaking commissions, seeks to unveil crucial testimonies for tomorrow that delve into the repercussions of intolerance towards the 'other.' Recent premieres have fearlessly addressed issues like family separations at the US-Mexico border, the global refugee crisis, and the looming threat of nuclear war.

MOR Artistic Director Mina Miller reflects on the program's significance, noting how it draws from legends spanning generations and cultures—the medieval Yiddish golem and the Persian qaqnus myth. These narratives serve as poignant reminders of our shared humanity and compel us to stand against injustice wherever it emerges. This season's premieres mark a milestone, bringing MOR's total commissions to an impressive 45 new works, spanning song cycles, chamber pieces, operas, film scores, and choreography—all leveraging the power of art to confront pressing issues in today's world.
