A celebrated pianist of "breathtaking charisma" (Philadelphia Inquirer) and "uncommon sensitivity" (The New Yorker), Inon Barnatan brings Portland Piano International's season to a close with a program of mesmerizing music by Rachmaninoff and Schubert.

Rachmaninoff's early Moments musicaux showcase signature elements of the Russian composer's unabashedly romantic music—lush melodies, heightened expression, and thunderous, bell-like sounds—while honoring Schubert's own Moments musicaux, emotional tone poems one critic called "intimate confidences from Schubert's innermost soul." And Rachmaninoff's nostalgia-laced Symphonic Dances, his final expression of unfulfilled longing for home after 20 years of exile in the US, is born anew in Barnatan's explosive transcription for solo piano.

Two performances:
- Sunday, May 5, 4pm at Lincoln Performance Hall (LH 175) at Portland State University
- Tuesday, May 7, 7:30pm at the Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton

NOTE: Due to a recent hand injury, the phenomenal Eric Lu won't be able to join us for PPI's season-ending recitals on May 5 and 7, or the Beyond the Score master class also scheduled for early May.

But fret not — the music will go on in Portland and Beaverton! Our dear friend Inon Barnatan will be our distinguished guest for both scheduled recitals. (Sadly, we've had to cancel the master class.)
