About Talea Ensemble

The Talea Ensemble's mission is to champion musical creativity, cultivate curious listeners, and bring visionary new works to life with vibrant performances that remain in the audience's imagination long after a concert. Recipient of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, the New York based Talea Ensemble has premiered more than 45 commissions since it was founded in 2008. Festival engagements have included performances at Lincoln Center Festival, Donaueschingen Musiktage, Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt, Resonant Bodies Festival, TIME:SPANS, Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival, Warsaw Autumn Festival, Time of Music Finland, Wien Modern, Vancouver New Music, Festival Musica, and many more. The ensemble has also partnered with institutions across disciplines, such as the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, the City of Ideas Festival in Mexico, and the Storm King Art Center, and has undertaken residencies in music departments around the country to support a new generation of musicians.

About Graduate Center Composers – CUNY (GC Composers)

GC Composers is a student organization dedicated to supporting the work of doctoral (Ph.D./DMA) candidates in music composition at The Graduate Center (The City University of New York). Founded and maintained by composers in the program, the GC Composers presents regular concerts of new works and invites collaborations with performers and ensembles, both from within CUNY schools and from New York City's new music community. The goal of the organization is to provide a venue for doctoral composers in the program to develop productive relationships with performers and ensembles by fostering an open and productive collaborative environment. The culmination of these annual collaborations are free public concerts, taking place in Elebash Recital Hall at the Graduate Center, and other CUNY venues.

About Laura Cocks, flute

Laura Cocks is a New York-based flutist who works in a wide array of creative environments as a performer and promoter of contemporary music. Laura is the flutist and executive director of TAK ensemble, and a member of the Nouveau Classical Project and the Association of Dominican Classical Artists. They can be heard with TAK, International Contemporary Ensemble, Talea, Wet Ink Ensemble, and others on labels such as Carrier Records, ECM, Centaur Records, New Focus Recordings, Sound American, Denovali, Orange Mountain Music, Chambray Records, Amplify, TAK editions, Double Double Whammy, Winspear, Supertrain, and Gold Bolus.

About Chris Gross, cello

Cellist Christopher Gross' performances have been praised by The New York Times ("beautifully meshed readings....lustrous tone") and The Strad Magazine (“...the tone of Gross’ cello enveloped the crowd [as he] showed energy and intonational accuracy, even when racing around the fingerboard”). He is a founding member of the Talea Ensemble, a member of the Da Capo Chamber Players, and has appeared at venues and festivals throughout the US and Europe including Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Disney Hall, Darmstadt Festival, Mostly Mozart Festival, Wien Modern, the Composers Conference, and many others.
